Our Story

A neighborhood bakery
with a patient hand

The Purple Bean began as a quiet conviction: that good food doesn't need to be rushed. What started as weekend baking in a home kitchen grew into something the Holden community could gather around — a place where sourdough rises slowly, where coffee is poured with attention, and where every loaf carries the weight of deliberate craft.

We source flour from regional mills, keep our own starters alive, and let fermentation do what it does best — transform simple ingredients into something remarkable. Our grocery selection mirrors the same principle: items we'd keep in our own pantry.

Our Approach

Craft isn't a trend.
It's a discipline.

We believe that the difference between ordinary and exceptional lies in the details most people overlook: the weight of a starter, the temperature of the water, the patience to let dough rest. Every product we make carries the same standard we'd hold for our own family.

Our grocery selection follows the same rigor — we carry only what we'd use, sourced from producers who share our commitment to quality over convenience.

Patient Process

Nothing rushed. Our breads ferment for 24–48 hours, developing flavor that shortcuts can't replicate.

Local Sourcing

We partner with regional mills and producers, keeping our supply chain short and relationships close.

Community First

We're neighbors first. Every loaf we bake is made for the people who walk through our door.
